NaNoWriMo, A Crazy Journey

National Novel Writing Month, a worldwide writing challenge, has started today. It is here to challenge you to write fifty thousand words in a month.

Can you write a book of fifty thousand words in a month?

The answer is YES.

If you want to write a novel and cannot create one just because you have some distractions around. Moreover, you are tired of making disciplinary actions and still didn’t finish the beloved book you have dreamed of; this is your chance to begin and finish writing it.

NaNoWriMo gives you a chance to get into the habit of daily writing. It helps you understand how important developing a writing habit is. If you want to be a writer, thirty days are just enough to form a habit; here, the habit of spending a couple of hours writing every day instead of a couple of hours in front of the TV or playing games. The major purpose of Nanowrimo is to get you into the habit of being a writer, even when November is over.

It gets you involved in the challenge of writing to a deadline. Fifty thousand words in thirty days seems impossible, but it will be if you continue to write until the last week. So Nanowrimo teaches you to write every day in order to make it easy.

Most of what we write for Nanowrimo is garbage. Because we write it in a hurry. Participants are concerned only with getting the right number of words out as quickly as possible. For Nanowrimo, perfection doesn’t matter; participants are practicing, and that’s important.

Nanowrimo is worth it for people who enjoy writing and who want to make it a part of their life.

When you take part you will understand the creative process of writing like never before. Even if you don’t win, you’ll see how hard it is not just to come up with ideas, but to actually put them into action. It doesn’t matter, if you write nonfiction, you’ll see how fantastic it is to keep going.

To take part in Nanowrimo, participants need to sign up to the website, upload word count, earn badges along the way, and get the opportunity to attend local events or connect with other writers. To achieve the required word count, they need to write an average of 1,667 words per day. Once you’ve hit the 50,000-word mark, you can upload your work to the NaNoWriMo website to verify the target word count.

The competition begins on November First, but you can sign up at any time during the year.

The challenge can be crazy and stressful, but it can also be fun. Because in the end, you’ll get a 50,000-word draft for a novel that might turn into a publishable book. This may seem silly, but in terms of actual rewards, that’s what you get for winning. At last, you have some to edit later and then publish.

A feeling of an unimaginable sense of accomplishment follows you after you complete the target word count. Seriously, this is what it feels like to run a marathon or climb a tall mountain. You wrote a book. Just like all your favorite authors. This is something few people achieve, just by finishing a draft.

I am excited about doing it this year; share your feelings, what you think of participating in a writing challenge that might lead you into finishing a book?
